Welcome !

The Mormon Church - LDS - Rich and Powerful - Worldwide Presence - a strong Missionary Volunteer Force - Impressive and Captivating - I was just drawn to it

I took everything too serious and at face value for far too long - but life is not a nice fairytale and I paid a heavy price for it ...
When life is gray and you are promised a more meaningful higher life (it costs you 10 Percent of your total monthly income) be a part of a higher purpose - marriages and sealings for all eternity ...
The General Authorities are living a comfortable life ! - the Missionaries have to save for their mission ...

I saw myself as "Watchman in Zion" beholding the signs of the times, the winds of war, something big in the making ....
Jerusalem - Salt Lake City - LDS Headquarters - VIP - a deep connection to President Hunter and the Holy Land .... it was overwhelming while it lastet but I was never a devout Mormon and chore teachings never made really sense to me ! My biggest mistake was to take everything too serious and at face value for far too long - and I payed a heavy price for it ! .....
From my personal notes - while still in "Mormon Mode from 1975"
  • Conflict and domestic difficulties mark the coming years due to my church involvement

  • Aug 1984 - turning point - a visit to Germany and death of my father make me kneel again and pray - I remain a loner, LDS life in Israel just goes on without me, except for the ..... - wonderful friends, that also includes the ......
  • 1985-1988 - BYU Center construction - supervised by my good friend Fred A. Schwendiman
  • May 1989 - Pres Howard W Hunter dedicates the new BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies
  • Oct 1989 - Finally - the long dreamed of trip to UTAH takes place. we have a wonderful time with our friends
  • Apr 1991 - General Conference - Salt Lake City
  • Feb 1992 - Another special and important visit to Salt Lake City - celebrating my 44th birthday, visiting my good friends, meet with Pres Hunter and Spencer J. Palmer the author of Mormons & Muslims, he presents me with his book "Religions of the World" and writes : Happy Birthday - May the Lord be with you in your commendable work - Spencer Palmer - Feb 1992.

  • 1993-1995 - further visits follow, the saddest being April 1995, my good friends had passed away, LeRoy on 18.Feb and Eva on 22 Mar. , also Pres Howard W. Hunter had died just weeks before on 3 March 1995. It was a sad, although spiritually uplifting conference, still in the Tabernacle Building.

Welcome to Ephraim Signal - Observation Post in the Mountains of Ephraim - Samaria

While I am busy at work and deeply involved in Mormonism and the Latter Day Signs, my marriage is in a dire state !
Instead of confronting her of her late home-comings due to "overtime" I seek answers in religion to fill the empty evenings ... I should never have neglected my marriage !!!!

But I saw myself as "Watchman in Zion" beholding the signs of the times, the winds of war, something big in the making ....

The Iran–Israel proxy conflict, also known as the Iran–Israel proxy war or Iran–Israel Cold War, is an ongoing proxy war between Iran and Israel. The conflict is bound in threats, hostility of Iran's leaders against Israel, and their declared objective to dissolve the Jewish state. Israel is concerned by Iran's nuclear weapons program, and is seeking to downgrade Iran's allies and proxies such as the Lebanese Hezbollah political-militant organization.

The conflict gradually emerged from Iran's hostile stance toward Israel following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, into covert Iranian support of Hezbollah during the South Lebanon conflict (1985–2000) and by 2005 developed into a proxy regional conflict. In 2006, Iran was actively involved in supporting Hezbollah during the 2006 Lebanon War and in parallel began supporting Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Israel, on the other hand, initiated a campaign to harm the Iranian nuclear program, utilizing several anti-regime militias within Iran. Upon the onset of the Syrian Civil War, the conflict escalated and by 2018 turned into direct Iranian-Israeli warfare.

Key issues in the conflict include Iran's support of groups opposing Israel, Israel's support of anti-Iranian rebel groups, Iran's nuclear program, and Israel's ties with other rivals of Iran such as Saudi Arabia and the United States. The involvement of both countries in the Syrian Civil War has created additional possibilities for direct conflict between the two states.[51]

Iran has provided significant support to Hezbollah,[52] Hamas,[53] and the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, whereas Israel has supported the People's Mujahedin of Iran[54] and has conducted assassinations and attacks against Iranian targets directly.[55][56] Israel has also conducted cyber warfare against Iran, and has publicly advocated for international military action against Iran.[57]

Israel has accused Iran of attempting to form a continuous land transport route from Iran via Iraq and Syria to Lebanon, which Israel views as a significant strategic threat.
Iran views Israel as an illegitimate "Zionist regime" and its leaders have accused Israel of being an American client state hostile to Muslims.

Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia - ROCOR - Headquarters New York

The Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (Russian: Ру́сская Правосла́вная Це́рковь Заграни́цей, romanized: Russkaya Pravoslavnaya Tserkov' Zagranitsey, lit. 'Russian Orthodox Church Abroad'), or ROCOR, is a semi-autonomous part of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).

The ROCOR was established in the early 1920s as a de facto independent ecclesiastical jurisdiction of Eastern Orthodoxy, initially due to lack of regular liaison between the central church authority in Moscow and some bishops due to their voluntary exile after the Russian Civil War. These bishops migrated with other Russians to Western European cities and nations, including Paris and other parts of France, and to the United States and other western countries. Later these bishops rejected the Moscow Patriarchate′s unconditional political loyalty to the Bolshevik regime in the USSR. This loyalty was formally promulgated by the Declaration of 20 July 1927 of Metropolitan Sergius (Stragorodsky), deputy Patriarchal locum tenens. Metropolitan Antony (Khrapovitsky), of Kiev and Galicia, was the founding First Hierarch of the ROCOR.

After 80 years of separation followed by the fall of the Soviet Union, on 17 May 2007, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia officially signed the Act of Canonical Communion with the Moscow Patriarchate, restoring the canonical link between the churches. This resulted in a split with the much diminished Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church (ROAC), which remained within the True Orthodoxy movement independent of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The ROCOR jurisdiction has around 400 parishes worldwide and an estimated membership of more than 400,000 people.[3] Of these, 232 parishes and 10 monasteries are in the United States; they have 92,000 declared adherents and over 9,000 regular church attendees.[1] ROCOR has 13 hierarchs, with male and female monasteries in the United States, Canada, and the Americas; Australia, New Zealand, and Western Europe.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had a presence in Russia before the rise of the USSR, with the first baptisms occurring in 1895

Preliminary missionary efforts began before the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and the Russian government officially recognized the Church in 1991. Membership increased in the 1990s and early 2000s. Missionary efforts were impacted by the 2016 Yarovaya law, which prohibited proselyting outside of official Church property. Current membership statistics are not available for Russia, but the Church reported 19,946 members in 2009. As of 2015, there are three stakes. There are five missions in Russia as of 2017. In 2018, Russell M. Nelson announced that a temple would be constructed in a major city in Russia.

Early beginnings In 1843, 13 years after the Church was formed, Joseph Smith called two missionaries - George J. Adams and Orson Hyde - to serve in Russia. Smith stated that "some of the most important things concerning the ... building up of the kingdom of God in the last days" involved Russia. Adams and Hyde's mission, however, was canceled after the death of Joseph Smith. In the 1840s, the Russian press reported the Mormon pioneers' move west, and in the 1870s and 80s chronicled the struggle between the Church and the U.S. government over the practice of plural marriage. In 1887, while serving in Jaffa, Palestine, Joseph M. Tanner reportedly baptized some Russians who then settled in Utah. The first LDS baptisms in Russia occurred in 1895. August Höglund, a Swedish native, was sent to St. Petersburg in response to a request from the Lindelof family for missionaries to visit them. Johan and Alma Lindelof were soon baptized, and two of their children followed in 1905. This event encouraged Francis M. Lyman to travel to Russia in 1903 to dedicate it for missionary work. He gave dedicatory prayers in Moscow and at the Summer Palace in St. Petersburg. Church leaders visited the Lindelofs following their conversion. An LDS missionary was sent to Latvia, but increasing political tension thwarted further efforts to proselyte in the Russian Empire. After the October Revolution occurred, the Lindelof family was arrested and only two children are confirmed to have survived.

    Soviet era
There is no evidence of additional converts to the Church before 1989; however, John Noble claimed to have met a "handful of Mormons" while in the Soviet Union in the 1950s. He recorded that they were persecuted by the Communist government for their association with an American religion, but persisted in practicing their faith. The term "Mormon" was also used by Russians to describe unaffiliated polygamist groups.

In 1959, Ezra Taft Benson visited Moscow and spoke to a crowd in the Central Baptist Church. The Russian translation of The Book of Mormon was published on June 3, 1981. As the political climate began to change, the Russian people began learning of the Church through travel to other countries and contact with members. The Terebenin family joined the Church while visiting Budapest, Hungary in 1989, and it was in their home on February 11, 1990 where the first Russian branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was created. Soviet diplomat Yuri Dubinin traveled to Utah in April 1990; while visiting Brigham Young University, he affirmed that the Church would be allowed inside the USSR. Russell M. Nelson dedicated the land for missionary work for the second time in 1990 in the same Summer Garden where Lyman gave the original prayer. The first mission in the Soviet Union was established in July 1990.

    Modern day
The Church was officially recognized by the Russian government in May 1991. The Russia Moscow and St. Petersburg Missions were founded in February 1992 after legislation passed that allowed for greater religious freedom. At the time, Church membership had reached 750. In the 1990s and early 2000s, membership grew and three stakes were established in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Saratov. In March 1998, a pair of missionaries were kidnapped while working in Saratov and held for a demanded ransom of $300,000. The ransom was never paid, and the young men were released four days later.

    Recent developments
Beginning in July 2016, anti-terror laws passed in Russia prohibit most religious proselyting. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that it would adhere to the new restrictions outlined in this Yarovaya law, including referring to missionaries as "volunteers." According to a report by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, the law prohibits "preaching, praying, disseminating religious materials, and even answering questions about religion outside of officially designated sites." A 2018 Radio Free Europe story detailed the challenges these volunteers face in Russia, including not being able to directly tell people about the Church in public places and combating abundant anti-Mormon media. According to The Moscow Times, Roskomnadzor, the part of the Russian government overseeing media censorship, has blocked the Church's website. In March 2019, a pair of LDS volunteers serving in Novorossiysk were arrested and deported by Russian police for visa violation when they were found teaching English. There are continuing cultural obstacles, particularly due to the overlap that occurs between Church culture and American culture. Russian privacy laws also make the use of the Church-operated FamilySearch website impossible for Russian members. The Church has built its own chapels in Russia, but tends to purchase and remodel existing buildings in order to draw less negative attention. Emigration and low birth rates currently contribute to falling membership numbers. In 2020, the LDS Church canceled services and other public gatherings indefinitely in response to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

    Statistics and other information
As of January 1, 2009, the Church reported 19,946 members, 8 missions, 15 districts, and 129 branches in Russia. Members made up 0.14 percent of Russia's population. In 2017, the First Presidency dissolved the Russia Vladivostok Mission into the Novosibirsk Mission, lowering the number of missions in Russia to five. A 2017 Deseret News report claimed 23,180 members and 103 congregations. Currently, no membership statistics are available for the country.

    Stakes
Three stakes as of November 15, 2015 :
    Moscow Russia Stake
    Saint Petersburg Russia Stake
    Saratov Russia Stake
    Districts
    Novosibirsk Russia District
    Samara Russia District

    Temples
Russian members attended the Stockholm Sweden Temple and the Freiberg (East) Germany Temple before the Helsinki Finland Temple and the Kyiv Ukraine Temple were constructed. Hostilities between Russia and Ukraine have made travel more difficult for members seeking to attend the Kyiv temple. In the Russian Far East, members have also used the temple in Seoul.

At the April 2018 General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Russell M. Nelson announced a temple to be constructed in Russia. The official location has not been announced, though it will reportedly be in a major city. While visiting Moscow that same month, Dieter F. Uchtdorf encouraged Church members to prepare for the temple but to have "patience," as development and construction will be slow. Ronald A. Rasband visited Eastern Europe in 2019 and assured Russian members that a temple would indeed be built.

For Latter-day Saints, the gathering of Israel in the last days, and the building of the city of Zion and of the New Jerusalem, are closely related concepts.

The tenth article of faith, written by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1842, declares that the New Jerusalem will be built upon the American continent. He learned this as he translated the Book of Mormon (3 Ne. 20:22; Ether 13:2-6). Additional revelation on this subject came in September 1830 and was further clarified in the subsequent months (D&C 28:9; 42:33-36, 62, 67; 57:3). In July 1831, Joseph Smith traveled to Jackson County, Missouri, at the command of the Lord, where it was announced that the long-awaited gathering of Israel would commence. The city of Zion (also called the New Jerusalem) and its temple would be built in Independence, Missouri (D&C 57:1-3).

Even as the ancient tribes of Israel were scattered north of the Holy Land and their identity was lost, their prophets foretold a gathering of Israel in the last days in a consecrated land (Jer. 31:1-12). Zion would be reestablished. This prophecy includes the promise that the "pure in heart" will receive the higher principles and truths of the full gospel of Jesus Christ (D&C 97:21; 100:16; 101:18). Both where and how they live will come about under divine influence. Since favorable spiritual conditions may exist anywhere in the world, cities of Zion and of Zion people, the "pure in heart," could be located anywhere in the world (D&C 97:21). However, there is to be a "center place," or capital city, of Zion. It is referred to both as "the city of Zion" and as "the city of New Jerusalem" (D&C 57:2; 84:2; cf. 45:66-67).

The writings of Ether, written prior to 125 B.C., abridged by Moroni 2 in the Book of Mormon, prophesy of the preparations for the coming of the messiah and of a New Jerusalem in the Western Hemisphere. It is to be built by the remnant of the seed of Joseph of Egypt (Ether 13:3-10). Ether also speaks of the destruction of Jerusalem of old, adding that it will be rebuilt with a temple and become a holy city (Ether 13:11).

Also, the book of Revelation speaks of "the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven" (Rev. 21:2, 10). This may relate to the return of the city of Enoch, the Zion that in Enoch's day was caught up into heaven (Moses 7:12-21, 59-64).

The future rebuilding of the Holy Land for the house of Judah and the building of the New Jerusalem in the Western Hemisphere for the house of Joseph are associated with the return of the Messiah to the earth. Of this era, the 1845 Proclamation of the Twelve (MFP 1:252-66) says:

He will assemble the Natives, the remnants of Joseph in America; and make them a great, and strong, and powerful nation: and he will civilize and enlighten them, and will establish a holy city, and temple and seat of government among them, which shall be called Zion.

And there shall be his tabernacle, his sanctuary, his throne, and seat of government for the whole continent of North and South America for ever. In short, it will be to the western hemisphere what Jerusalem will be to the eastern….

The city of Zion, with its sanctuary and priesthood, and the glorious fulness of the gospel, will constitute a standard which will put an end to jarring creeds and political wranglings, by uniting the republics, states, provinces, territories, nations, tribes, kindred, tongues, people and sects of North and South America in one great and common bond of brotherhood. Truth and knowledge shall make them free, and love cement their union. The Lord also shall be their king and their lawgiver; while wars shall cease and peace prevail for a thousand years [pp. 259-60].

The prophet Isaiah declared that in a future time "out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem" (Isa. 2:2-3; cf. Micah 4:1-2). Latter-day Saints believe this refers to the two Zion headquarters in the two hemispheres from which the Messiah, the returned Son of God, will reign triumphantly over the whole earth.

As far as we now know, Jerusalem was first founded as a city after the flood. It is mentioned in Abraham's day under the name Salem, a term meaning peace. (Gen. 14:18; Ps. 76:2.) Melchizedek was king in the land of Salem, and because he established peace "he was called the prince of peace" (Alma 13:17-18), the "King of peace." (Heb. 7:1-2.) In the original Hebrew the proper name was Shiloam, "which signifies righteousness and peace." (Teachings, p. 321.) But however designated, Jerusalem was a holy and sacred city to the Lord's people anciently; through all her long history, ancient Israel looked to Jerusalem as the holy city. In due course it became the chief city of our Lord's ministry, and it is now sacred to three great world religions -- Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

During her long history Jerusalem, spiritually, has soared to the heights and sunk to the depths. A great many prophets have ministered in her streets, the visions of eternity have been poured out upon her inhabitants, and the teachings of the gospel have sanctified her inhabitants. On the other hand, in apostate periods, she has slain the living prophets and rejected their teachings, while building the sepulchres of those whom their fathers had rejected and slain. (Matt. 23:13-39; Luke 13:33-35.) Indeed, so great is to be the wickedness in latter-day Jerusalem that "spiritually" she "is called Sodom and Egypt." (Rev. 11:8.)

But even more important than her past glory, her historical position, and her religious influence, is the part (dear to the hearts of the prophets) which Jerusalem is yet to play in the destiny of the world. In the last days the Jerusalem of old is to be rebuilt, a remnant of the Jews is to assemble there, and the final great battles which attend the Second Coming of the Son of Man are to take place at Jerusalem. (Teachings, p. 17; Zech. 12; 13; 14.) And then during the millennial era this rebuilt Jerusalem is to be one of two great world capitals, "for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem." (Isa. 2:3.)

In addition to the rebuilding of the Jerusalem of old, the latter-days are to see the initial building of a New Jerusalem on the American continent, a city which like its ancient counterpart will be a holy city, a Zion, a city of God. (3 Ne. 20:22.) This New Jerusalem is to be built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Jackson County, Missouri, is the spot designated by revelation for its construction. (D. & C. 28; 42:8-9, 30-42; 45:66-67; 52:2, 42-43; 57:1-5; 58:7, 44-58; 84:2-5.) It shall be built when the Lord directs. (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, pp. 66-79; D. & C. 124:49-54.)

This New Jerusalem on the American continent will have a dual origin. It will be built by the saints on earth and it will also come down from heaven, and the cities so originating will be united into one holy city. Moroni recorded that America "was the place of the New Jerusalem, which should come down out of heaven, and the holy sanctuary of the Lord. Behold, Ether saw the days of Christ, and he spake concerning a New Jerusalem upon this land. And he spake also concerning the house of Israel, and the Jerusalem from whence Lehi should come -- after it should be destroyed it should be built up again, a holy city unto the Lord; wherefore, it could not be a new Jerusalem for it had been in a time of old; but it should be built up again, and become a holy city of the Lord; and it should be built unto the house of Israel. And that a New Jerusalem should be built up upon this land, unto the remnant of the seed of Joseph.

"The remnant of the house of Joseph shall be built upon this land; and it shall be a land of their inheritance; and they shall build up a holy city unto the Lord, like unto the Jerusalem of old; and they shall no more be confounded, until the end come when the earth shall pass away. And there shall be a new heaven and a new earth; and they shall be like unto the old save the old have passed away, and all things have become new.

"And then cometh the New Jerusalem; and blessed are they who dwell therein, for it is they whose garments are white through the blood of the Lamb; and they are they who are numbered among the remnant of the seed of Joseph, who were of the house of Israel. And then also cometh the Jerusalem of old; and the inhabitants thereof, blessed are they, for they have been washed in the blood of the Lamb; and they are they who were scattered and gathered in from the four quarters of the earth, and from the north countries, and are partakers of the fulfilling of the covenant which God made with their father, Abraham." (Ether 13:3-11.) Enoch saw the latter-day restoration of the gospel and the subsequent building of the New Jerusalem. "Righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare," the Lord told him, "an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem. And the Lord said unto Enoch: Then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there, and we will receive them into our bosom, and they shall see us; and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other." (Moses 7:60-63.) Thus it is that the New Jerusalem shall be built by the saints and shall also come down from heaven.

Events to transpire after the millennial era and before the earth becomes a celestial sphere have not been revealed. We do have an account, however, of "the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God" a second time, that is, after the earth has become a celestial planet. John refers to this celestial city in Revelation 3:12 and then gives a somewhat detailed description of it in the 21st chapter of the same book.

Having in mind these glorious truths relative to the millennial New Jerusalem and the celestial city of the same name, knowing that Enoch's Zion had been taken to heaven and would return again, the ancient prophets "looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God," confessing the while "that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth." And God "hath prepared for them a city" (Heb. 11:9-16), that is, he has prepared it for those who gain salvation, for such "come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem." (Heb. 12:22.)

Salt Lake City - Utah - Feb 22, 1992: To my dearest friends & fellow laborers in the vineyard,

In the last few hours prior to leaving to the airport in Salt Lake City, I was prompted strongly by the spirit to write the following lines to my dear friends on the back of the card that shows the second coming of the Lord :

As we embark on our journey into the future we are guided & motivated by the glorious vision of the Lord's second coming.

We shall behold this glorious vision which has been burnt into our innermost beings, never to be wiped from our memories.
We shall behold this vision in our darkest, most violent and troublesome hours, for the Lord shall always be with us when we faint and falter.

All our talents and faculties are mobilized towards this glorious event and the triumphant reception in Jerusalem. Towards this moment we submit our lives, yes our entire beings! We have but one aim: to be worthy of HIS atoning sacrifice and to be numbered with HIS Church of the first born, to dwell with HIM during the milenium, and to partake of a glorious celestial heritage.
I am overwhelmed with joy and thankfulness to be numbered amongst you and to partake on this marvelous work. May we endure to the end
